About Acura Cars
Acura cars were introduced into North America by their parent company, Honda, in 1986. This means that in terms of car makers they are a relative newcomer. The company began with 60 dealerships and two models, the Legend and the Integra.
The Legend, a V6 sedan, was the first luxury Japanese car to be sold in the United States, competing with the likes of Lexus, BMW and Nissan's Infiniti. The Integra on the other hand was a sporty three or five door hatchback which combined reliability with performance.
Following the success of these two models, Acura added the NSX (New Sports Experimental) to their range in 1991. This was a V6, rear wheel drive, all aluminium sports car, said to be capable of competing with Ferrari and Porche. It's quality and reliability made it one of the best supercars of the time.
Acura suffered a few set backs in the mid 1990's. One of these was the failure of it's new SUV the SLX, which was really just a re-vamped Isuzu. It was of poor quality and failed to live up to the expectations of Acura customers both old and new.
In 2001 they introduced a completely new SUV called the MDX, which proved more popular and in 2002 the Integra was succeeded by the RSX another sports coupe. Acura cars are good to drive and have lots of innovative technology, yet they are still many thousands of dollars cheaper than their European rivals.
The company expanded into Mexico in 2004 and China in 2006, and are hoping to move into Russia in late 2008, early 2009. However there are still no Acuras in Europe or Japan, where Honda still has a large market share and loyal following.
