About Ferrari Cars
Ferrari was founded by Enzo Ferrari in 1928 and was originally called Scuderia Ferrari. Initially it made racing cars and also sponsored amateur drivers, but in 1947 it started to manufacture cars for the public roads under the name Ferrari S.p.A.
The first road car was the 125S, and although the company had much success with this domestic side of the business, Enzo's first love was always motor racing. In 1949 his 166M chalked up Ferrari's first motor sports win in the 24 Hour at Le Mans.Over the next 20 years Ferrari enjoyed much success in the field of sports car racing.
They also ganed a formidable reputation in Formula One racing, which they joined when it started in 1950. In 1951 they recorded their first win at the British Grand Prix. The Ferrari symbol of the black stallion on yellow background is now world famous and appears on both racing and road cars, sometimes with the green, white and red stripes of the Italian flag.
Ferrari managed to combine an ability to build successful racing cars with an equally successful ability to build beautiful, luxurious road cars. This was partly due to Italian car design company Pininfarina. A few of the more famous models were the 246 Dino, the Testarossa and the Berlinetta.
Ferrari is truly a worldwide name and has promoted itself and it's products with great success. The Ferrari brand can now boast perfume, clothing, watches, laptops and mobile phones amongst it's global successes.
Despite the companies overall success Enzo Ferrari was forced to sell his sports car division to Fiat in 1969 as a means of ensuring it's future. He retained control of the racing division until his death in 1988. The company he founded all those years ago is still a force to be reckoned with.
